Saturday, 21 September, 10:00-17:00 (break 12:00-14:30), room G105
As you look for a suitable job you must stand out from the crowd of other well-qualified job-seekers to attract the attention of potential employers. During this workshop you will:
- learn how to identify and present the specific skills you have acquired during your thesis and/or post doc;
- hear about the importance of tailoring your application to different types of jobs;
- learn how to write an attractive CV and engaging cover letter;
- learn how to prepare for and present yourself convincingly in an interview;
- and how networking can help you find out about potential careers, as well as available jobs.
Although focusing on non-academic career paths, much of the advice will be relevant to those applying to academic positions.
One month before the conference, you will be asked to send your CV and an application for a mock job; these will be used in the practical exercises during the workshop.
This workshop complements the Career Options Lunch session, and we recommend that participants who are considering a career outside academia sign-up to both sessions.
